Book Review: Chai - The Indian Tea Experience by Rekha Sarin
There aren't many books about tea that work equally well as reference books and as coffee table books, but Chai: The Indian Tea Experience by Rekha Sarin is one of them. Illustrated with photographs by Rajan Kapoor, it's a proper journey through tea in India - its history, its culture, its growing regions and its rituals.
Rekha Sarin writes about chai with the enthusiasm of someone who has spent a lifetime around it. The book covers everything from the tea estates of Assam and Darjeeling to the chai wallas of India's cities, and it does so with warmth and detail. Rajan Kapoor's photographs are genuinely beautiful.
For us, the book has a particular resonance. Many of our teas come from India - from the Nilgiri Hills, from Darjeeling, from Assam - and reading it is a reminder of what a rich and varied tea culture exists there, and how much of what ends up in a Bellevue tea bag has its roots in that world.
If you have a tea lover in your life who reads, it makes a lovely gift.
Our Indian teas - including Darjeeling, Assam and Nilgiri - are on the website.
Until next time, The Bellevue Team
