Bellevue Tea is an independent family run business in the heart of London, founded by me Clare.
The story starts in 1983 Calcutta when I was solo backpacking around India, when I met a tea trader called Mike.
Despite haphazard communications via letters and telegrams we managed to meet again down in Cochin south India, and the rest is history. .
Ever since, tea and its wondrous variety became a huge part of my life. Whether it was listening to trade conversations or watching Mike investigate the contents of a tea pot in a hotel or a tin in a friend's cupboard — I was becoming a tea connoisseur without even realising it .
20 years on, when the last of our four children went to secondary school and after countless questions from friends on what tea they should be drinking, I saw the opportunity to use our tea knowledge and contacts to provide great quality tea to them and you
Forty years and four children later, it is tea we have to thank for an incredible life together.
We are now thrilled that our son Max is joining the team. He has grown up virtually infused in tea, and from a young age has had a real appreciation for a good cup.
Over the years, on trips backpacking to tea-growing regions across the world — from Mount Mulanje in Malawi to the Hills of Coonoor in Southern India — Max's love of travel has become closely intertwined with his journey in the world of tea.
With his background as a skilled woodworker & joiner Max brings a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, design and an eye for detail.
