No Fuss Loose Leaf Tea - How to Brew Without a Teapot
A lot of people assume that loose leaf tea requires special equipment. It doesn't. The simplest way to drink it is also one of the best: put a pinch of tea directly in a mug, pour over hot water, and wait for the leaves to settle.
Most loose leaf teas work well this way. Smaller leaves will drift to the bottom within a minute or two. Larger leaves like our Nilgiri 901 - a beautiful, unfurling single-leaf black tea from South India - settle just as gracefully. You end up with the last half-centimetre of the cup undisturbed, which is no great hardship.
The Nilgiri 901 is a particularly good tea for brewing like this. It has a natural sweetness and delicacy that means it needs nothing added. No milk. No sugar. Just hot water and a few minutes.
If you've been putting off trying loose leaf tea because you thought you needed a teapot, a kettle and a mug is genuinely all you need to start.
