Make It Tea January

Dry January has become a fixture, and rightly so - a month off alcohol does most people a lot of good. But one of the hardest parts isn't the not-drinking. It's the social gap it leaves. The evening plans that feel awkward to navigate without a glass of something.

Our suggestion: make it Tea January as well as Dry January. Instead of not going out, invite people for tea. Instead of meeting at the pub, meet at someone's kitchen table with a pot on the go.

Afternoon tea has always been one of Britain's nicest social rituals - unhurried, warming, inclusive. It doesn't require a special occasion. It just requires a kettle and a bit of time.

If you haven't explored much beyond everyday teabags, January is a good time to try something different. A Darjeeling, a good Rooibos, a fragrant Earl Grey. Making the tea itself an event rather than just a substitute for something else.
